A new site for military burials is being opened in Lviv at the Honorary Burials Field No. 87 on Pasichna Street. There are only 20 places left in the existing section of the Lychakiv Cemetery, so a decision was made to expand burial opportunities.
The area, formerly known as the 'Hill of Fame', where Soviet and Russian soldiers from the world wars were buried, will now become part of Honorary Burials Field No. 87. Work on setting up the new section is already underway. The leadership of the Lviv City Council noted that the goal is to ensure a dignified burial for defenders.
The city also plans to create a citywide military-memorial cemetery that will meet modern standards. Such cemeteries remain operational worldwide even after conflicts have ended, according to the city council.
Currently, work is being done to recognize the Florivsky Cemetery on Castle Hill as a cultural heritage site. This cemetery does not yet have official status, but the issue will be considered at the appropriate level.
