Starting from October 12, passengers of suburban and intercity buses in the Lviv region will no longer need to tap their card when exiting. As before, the discounted trip will need to be registered with a validator: more details about confirming the discount fare. The change was announced by the Lviv Regional State Administration.

How to pay for bus rides in the Lviv region starting October 12, 2026

Until now, the Check-in/Check-out system required the card to be tapped twice: upon entry and exit. The validator determined the travel distance and fare this way. Due to unstable mobile communication during the martial law, the system will temporarily switch to a single tap — upon entering the bus.

The procedure for cashless payment or registering a discount will be as follows:

  • Tell the driver the stop you are going to.

  • Tap your bank card, NFC device, or discount card on the validator.

  • Wait for the driver to select the appropriate fare and confirm the transaction.

  • Check if a green tick appeared, and take the printed ticket.

A green tick means that the payment or registration of the discounted trip has been processed. If a red cross appears on the screen, the transaction did not go through, and the validator will show the reason for the failure. Therefore, the mere presence of a discount does not replace its registration: similar validation rules apply to the student card in Lviv.

What will change for discount passengers and cash users

For passengers who pay in cash, the procedure remains unchanged: you need to tell the driver your final stop, pay for the fare, and receive a ticket from the validator. Instructions for payment and trip accounting will be posted in the bus salons.

From October 12 to 16, there will be a transitional period. During this time, passengers will be able to get used to the new procedure, and carriers will check the operation of the system. If there are questions regarding payment or the validator, you can call the hotline at 0 800 300 844.

The transition to a single tap should simplify payments on suburban and intercity routes in the region, where earlier the calculation depended on fixing both entry and exit. At the same time, it is important for passengers to name the stop and collect the ticket: this confirms the payment or discounted trip.
