In Lviv, the fare may increase to approximately 35 UAH. The director of the municipal enterprise 'Electrotrans' Igor Samardak explains this by the lack of compensation for the transportation of preferential passengers and warns of the risk of transport stopping. After switching to electronic subscriptions LeoCard, the payment method will affect the cost of the trip. This is reported by the local publication 'Znai.ua'.
Why a fare of 35 UAH is being discussed in Lviv
According to Samardak, current revenues do not cover transportation costs. He stated that the city has not compensated about 20% of the cost of ordered services.
'Without adjusting the fare, if the city does not pay about 20% compensation, this is pure revenue shortfall', said the head of 'Electrotrans'.
Transport providers estimate the possible fare to be approximately 35 UAH per trip. This is currently just an announced estimate, not an approved price: the resolution must be adopted by the executive committee of the Lviv City Council. Earlier, the city had already revised fares for public transport, but now transport providers are once again talking about the need for changes.
How preferences and fare payments may change
According to Samardak, preferential passengers account for about half of the passenger flow. The compensation for their trips, which the city is supposed to pay to transport providers, has reached approximately 50 million UAH.
If funds for reimbursement are not found, Lviv is considering leaving preferential categories with a 50% discount instead of free travel. This is currently one of the possible scenarios, not an adopted decision.
At the same time, the city continues its transition to electronic payments through LeoCard. According to Samardak, the lowest fare is planned to be maintained for passengers who pay for travel through the app or card. Transport providers warn: without a fare increase and compensation for preferential transport, there may be disruptions in transport. Earlier, there were already warnings about the risk of stopping buses due to financial problems.
