Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi stated that the security situation at Ukrainian nuclear facilities is unstable. According to him, six of the seven 'pillars of nuclear safety' have been violated at the Zaporizhzhia NPP (ZNPP). This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to IAEA.
Speaking before the agency's Board of Governors, Grossi emphasized that only one external power line remains at ZNPP, which creates 'serious security risks'. All six reactors at the station are in a cold shutdown state, and under the current conditions, none of them can be safely restarted.
The head of IAEA reported that the water level in the ZNPP cooling pool has dropped to a critical threshold, posing a serious threat to safety. Ongoing military actions near the stations cause serious concern. Additionally, at Chernobyl NPP, six of the seven pillars of nuclear safety remain violated.
IAEA's statement underscores serious concerns regarding the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine, taking into account the heightened political and military situation in the region. Emphasis is placed on the necessity of immediate measures to prevent potential accidents that could have dire consequences for the population and the environment.
