The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued a geomagnetic activity forecast for June 1–2, 2023. This period's activity will be measured on a scale from 0 to 9 using the planetary K-index. According to projections, June 1 will see a K-index of 3.7—classified as a weak magnetic storm—while June 2 will register a K-index of 2.3, also considered a weak event. These magnetic storm updates are refreshed every three hours.

How Magnetic Storms Affect People

Geomagnetic activity, including magnetic storms, stems from solar flares and eruptions on the Sun. The solar energy released consists of charged particles like protons and electrons. It is important to note that a strong magnetic storm is defined by a K-index of 5 or higher.
