Healthy Food Festival Held in Kyiv Region

A festival promoting nutritious eating recently took place across four locations in the Boryspil district of the Kyiv region. The event aimed to highlight that the ongoing school meal reform goes beyond just providing food—it also focuses on building a culture of healthy eating among children. Currently, around 2 million children receive free hot meals, and starting in September 2026, the program is expected to expand to nearly 3 million students in grades 1 through 11 (or 12). This reform was launched by Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska.

Festival Locations and Activities

The festival was held at the following sites:

  • Rivne Lyceum in the Hirska community
  • Boryspil Lyceum "Leader"
  • Boryspil Vocational College
  • Shchaslyve Academic Lyceum

During the event, participants explored healthy lunch options, took part in children's quizzes, sports activities, and workshops, and discussed good eating habits with parents. Visitors also had the chance to tour modern school kitchen facilities.

This festival marked a key step in implementing the school meal reform, which aims to improve children's nutrition and encourage lifelong healthy habits. The event underscored the role of healthy eating as an essential part of education, with long-term benefits for students' well-being and future health.

The healthy food festival in the Kyiv region is part of a broader initiative to enhance the quality of school meals and instill healthy habits in children. The focus on providing free meals to millions of students reflects the government's commitment to supporting child health. With plans to expand the program by September 2026, such events could help strengthen the health of the younger generation and positively impact the nation's overall health in the years to come.

As the initiative to provide free meals to millions of schoolchildren gains momentum, it's important to note that schools in Ukraine can now serve meals beyond cafeterias. This new regulation aligns with the broader goal of enhancing children's nutrition and creating a supportive environment for healthy eating habits, complementing the ongoing meal reform efforts.
