Malta Becomes First Nation to Offer Free ChatGPT Plus Access to All Citizens

Мальта стала піонером, надаючи своїм громадянам безкоштовний доступ до ChatGPT Plus.

Malta Strikes Deal with OpenAI

Through a new agreement with US-based OpenAI, the Maltese government will provide every resident with complimentary access to ChatGPT Plus for a full year. The initiative, branded 'AI for All,' is set to launch in May. To participate, individuals must submit an application and complete an online course developed by the University of Malta.

This program also extends to Maltese citizens living abroad. Silvio Schembri, Malta’s Minister for the Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, commented:

“Malta is the first country to roll out a partnership of this magnitude because we refuse to let our citizens fall behind in the digital age. We are placing our people at the forefront of global change.”

Program’s Potential Impact

Malta is the world’s first nation to implement such a program on a national scale, a fact confirmed by OpenAI representatives. The financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, though it is known that a standard ChatGPT Plus subscription costs $20 per month. With a population exceeding 570,000, Malta has significant potential to drive user adoption of this new service.

This initiative could dramatically reshape access to artificial intelligence technologies for Maltese residents, equipping them with tools to learn and boost their competitiveness in the job market. The 'AI for All' program may also serve as a model for other countries considering how to integrate AI technologies into their educational systems and broader society.
