Вік 13 років – історичний момент для Марії Кочерженко, яка стала першою українкою, що здобула перемогу на юніорському чемпіонаті Європи U14.

Maria Kocherzhenko Triumphs at the European U14 Year-End Championship

At just 13 years old, Ukrainian tennis sensation Maria Kocherzhenko claimed victory at the prestigious European U14 Year-End Championship held in Monte Carlo. This historic win marked her as the first Ukrainian to ever lift the title since the tournament's inception in 1996. In a thrilling final, she defeated Italy’s Olivia Serena Conticello with a scoreline of 7:6, 6:3.

During the group stage, Kocherzhenko played three matches, securing two wins against tough opponents:

  • She overcame Slovakia’s Alexandra Janoskova 6:1, 6:3;
  • Defeated Czech player Kristina Nikodimova 6:3, 7:5.

Her only setback came in a closely contested match against Beata Mareshova, where she lost 5:7, 6:3, 3:6. With three players finishing the group stage with identical records of two wins and one loss, advancement was decided by the percentage of sets won. Kocherzhenko’s strong performance, winning 5 out of 7 sets, secured her spot in the final.

Continued Rise and Achievements

In 2026, Kocherzhenko built on her momentum by winning the Super Category event in Milan. She also reached the final of the Wimbledon U14 tournament, narrowly losing to USA’s Isha Manchali in a gripping three-set match, 5:7, 6:2, 8:10. Additionally, she earned a silver medal in the European U14 singles championship and took home bronze in doubles alongside Anna Kuznetsova. By July 2026, Kocherzhenko had climbed to the top of the Tennis Europe rankings in the U14 age group, reflecting her rapid development and consistent success on the junior circuit.

Prior to the Year-End Championship, Kocherzhenko was ranked fourth globally within her age category, showcasing her elite level among peers. Meanwhile, fellow Ukrainian Elina Svitolina made headlines by advancing to the third round at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, including a victory over Ekaterina Synyakova. These achievements highlight the growing prominence of Ukrainian women in international tennis.

Kocherzhenko’s groundbreaking victory not only underscores her personal talent but also signals Ukraine’s increasing influence in the global tennis landscape.

With established stars like Elina Svitolina excelling on the professional circuit and rising talents like Kocherzhenko emerging, Ukraine’s tennis scene is gaining momentum. This upward trend is likely to inspire greater interest and participation in the sport across the country, motivating young athletes to pursue excellence on the international stage.
