January 20th Assault: Which Ukrainian Regions Face the Most Prolonged Power Outages

Ukraine is working to repair the damage from a massive combined missile and drone attack that struck on January 20th. This assault has caused severe disruptions to the power supply, forcing emergency consumption restrictions across multiple regions. The most critical situations are currently in the following areas, which are experiencing the longest unscheduled blackouts:

  • Kyiv
  • Kyiv Oblast
  • Kharkiv Oblast
  • Sumy Oblast
  • Donetsk Oblast
  • Poltava Oblast

The attack specifically targeted power generation facilities, transmission lines, and distribution networks, severely straining the national grid. These strikes are part of a wider, sustained campaign against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. In response to the crisis, energy officials are urgently calling on citizens to conserve electricity. As the national grid operator Ukrenergo stated:

"Every kilowatt-hour you do not use means an extra hour of light for those who have been without it for a very long time."
This highlights the critical role of public cooperation during recovery efforts.

Restoring the damaged energy infrastructure will be a lengthy and complex process. The ongoing call for energy conservation underscores the necessity for collective action to stabilize the power supply for all consumers during this challenging period.
