Russian Drone Barrage Kills Civilians, Including Children, and Damages Infrastructure Across Ukraine

Внаслідок ударів безпілотників у містах України загинули десятки мирних жителів, серед яких є діти, а інфраструктура зазнала значних збитків.

Widespread Drone Assault Results in Civilian Deaths and Infrastructure Damage

In a major overnight assault, Russia launched a wave of drone attacks across Ukraine, killing civilians and causing significant damage to infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the strikes have undermined diplomatic efforts to end the war. These attacks are part of a sustained campaign targeting Ukrainian cities and civilian areas.

The barrage began the previous evening in Kharkiv, where a drone struck a private house, killing three children and their father. Their pregnant mother was hospitalized with burns. Separately, six people, including children, were wounded and one person was killed in an attack on the Sumy region. In the morning, a drone hit a city hospital in Zaporizhzhia. Overall, 129 attack drones, many of them 'Shahed' models, were launched against Ukraine. A strike also damaged a fire train at a railway depot in Konotop, with further attacks reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava regions.

Aftermath of the Attacks and Presidential Response

In Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv region, rescue workers recovered the bodies of four people killed after a night attack. An enemy drone hit a residential building, completely destroying it and sparking a fire covering about 60 square meters. Psychologists worked at the scene to support survivors. Notably, the family that perished in Kharkiv had evacuated just days earlier from the town of Zolochiv in the same region.

"Every Russian strike undermines trust in diplomatic efforts to end the war," - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President Zelenskyy commented on these events, stressing the need for increased pressure on Russia and clear security guarantees for Ukraine. He emphasized that protecting lives requires continued and strengthened support for Ukraine, including air defense systems and holding Russia accountable for its crimes.

This drone assault is the latest evidence of the escalating conflict between Ukraine and Russia, marked by a rising civilian death toll. The Ukrainian government is urging the international community to increase support, including weapons supplies and stronger sanctions against Russia, to reduce threats to civilians. The situation in the affected regions remains critical, with emergency services continuing to work on clearing the aftermath of the tragedies.
