Ukraine Struck by Large-Scale Drone Attack
In the early hours of February 3, a massive drone assault targeted Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. The attack caused significant damage to infrastructure in several districts of the capital and resulted in civilian injuries. This latest strike is part of a continued campaign targeting Ukrainian cities and energy systems. The affected regions included:
- Kyiv Oblast
- Dnipro
- Sumy
- Konotop
- Kharkiv
In Kyiv, the attack impacted the Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Pecherskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts. In Shevchenkivskyi, a drone struck a 22-story residential building, igniting a fire and injuring a man and a woman who suffered burns and glass cuts. In Dniprovskyi, debris hit a 5-story apartment building and landed near a store. In Darnytskyi, wreckage struck the 26th floor of a non-residential apartment and the roof of a private house, causing acute stress reactions in a 77-year-old man. The Pecherskyi district saw damage to a gas station and parked cars.
Consequences of the Assault
The attack had severe humanitarian consequences, particularly in Kharkiv, where thousands of residents were left without heating after the city's thermal power supply system was damaged. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced the need to drain coolant from one of the largest thermal power plants. In Konotop, a children's educational institution, private homes, and other facilities were also damaged. Police investigative teams, State Emergency Service rescuers, and other emergency services are working at the scenes.
This assault underscores the persistent threat posed by drone warfare in Ukraine, with severe consequences for civilians and critical infrastructure.
