Drone Attack on Moscow and Other Areas

On the morning of June 18, 2026, a large-scale drone assault targeted Moscow as well as facilities in Russia's Rostov and Belgorod regions. The attack struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, an oil depot in the city of Gukovo, and what is believed to be a military warehouse near Shebekino. In response, temporary flight restrictions were imposed at Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports. This event underscores the escalating use of drone warfare against critical infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.

This marked the second strike on the Moscow Oil Refinery within three days. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, Russian air defense units intercepted 52 drones approaching the capital. However, several drones still managed to reach the facility. The independent Russian monitoring channel Astra reported at least five fires at the Moscow refinery. Damage was also recorded at a building in the 'Sadovod' shopping center, located in southeastern Moscow.

Aftermath of the Attack and Regional Situation

In the Rostov region, an oil depot in Gukovo was hit, while in the Belgorod region, a suspected military warehouse near Shebekino reportedly experienced an explosion. Sergei Sobyanin stated that emergency crews are working at the attack sites to mitigate the consequences. No casualties have been reported so far.

As a result, the situation remains tense, and further developments require close monitoring. Military warehouses are burning near Belgorod, and smoke from the two strikes on the oil refinery has raised concerns among local residents.

The drone attack on critical facilities in Russia highlights a growing threat to national security and infrastructure. These events could have far-reaching implications for both the country's domestic policy and its international relations, as the armed conflict continues to escalate.

Attention will remain focused on the situation as state authorities work to address the aftermath of the attacks and ensure public safety.

The recent drone strikes in Moscow are part of a broader pattern of escalating attacks on critical military and industrial sites across Russia. This situation mirrors the earlier incidents involving drone assaults on a missile manufacturing facility, which further highlights the increasing vulnerability of key infrastructures.
