Drone Barrage Plunges Sevastopol, Yalta, and Bakhchysarai Into Darkness

Атака безпілотників призвела до відключення електроенергії в містах Севастополь, Ялта та Бахчисарай.

Massive Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Assault on Crimea

In the early hours of July 6, the temporarily occupied Crimean Peninsula experienced a large-scale drone attack. Several cities, including Sevastopol, Yalta, and Bakhchysarai, were left without electricity. The assault also struck the Hvardiiske military airbase and targeted energy infrastructure, notably the Tavriyska Thermal Power Plant.

Sevastopol was placed under a special emergency regime, with most of the city losing power and social facilities switching to backup generators. Yalta suffered a complete blackout, while in Bakhchysarai, electricity was cut off at 12:45 AM. Voltage fluctuations were reported in Dzhankoi and its surrounding areas. Lights flickered in Kerch, and Feodosia also experienced power supply disruptions.

Attack Details

At 12:43 AM on July 6, at least two strikes hit the Hvardiiske military airbase. These impacts were preceded by gunfire and a series of 5 to 7 powerful explosions, with the last one recorded at 1:14 AM. Blasts were also heard near Bilohirsk. Reports emerged of shooting close to the Tavriyska Thermal Power Plant in Strohonivka, where repeated drone flyovers were detected. Local residents noted smoke and the smell of burnt wiring in the area.

Drones were also spotted heading toward the Simferopol Heat and Power Plant and the Balaklava Thermal Power Plant. By early morning, explosions and gunfire resumed near Mazanka, over Simferopol, and in Kerch, where blasts continued for more than 20 minutes. Notably, the Tavriyska Thermal Power Plant had already been damaged in an earlier attack on June 21. Mykhailo Razvozhaev stated that authorities are

“doing everything possible”
to address the situation.

This assault on Crimea is part of an ongoing conflict where drone warfare is becoming increasingly prevalent. The strikes on key military and energy sites indicate efforts to destabilize control over the region and reduce its military capacity. The resulting power outages in major cities could have severe consequences for local residents and critical infrastructure.

The recent drone assault on Crimea is reminiscent of earlier strikes that have similarly impacted other regions. For instance, Ukrainian drones have also caused significant power outages in Kherson and parts of Zaporizhzhia, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by occupied territories.
