Russia Strikes Five Naftogaz Facilities in Sumy and Kharkiv Regions in Coordinated Attack

Російські війська завдали ударів по об'єктах Нафтогазу в Сумській та Харківській областях в узгодженій наступальній операції.

Infrastructure Strikes and Their Impact on Civilians

On May 3, Russian forces targeted five infrastructure sites operated by the Naftogaz Group in Ukraine’s Sumy and Kharkiv regions. The attacks caused fires and equipment damage, forcing a temporary halt to production at these facilities. Serhiy Koretsky reported that

“Equipment has been damaged, and fires broke out at the sites. We had to suspend operations temporarily. The intensity of enemy strikes is increasing.”

Additionally, late on the evening of May 2, Russian occupiers launched a missile strike on civilian infrastructure in the Kroleveska community of Konotop district, injuring six people. Three of the victims were hospitalized, two of whom are in critical condition. A Russian drone also struck a civilian car in the Putivlska community, wounding a child. In the Sumy community, falling debris from a drone injured two teenagers.

Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure

On the night of April 29, Russian troops used drones and a missile to attack civilian infrastructure in the Shostkynska community. The assault killed a 65-year-old resident due to carbon monoxide poisoning, as confirmed by Oleh Hryhorov:

“They deliberately targeted homes where civilians live. The attack sparked massive fires in residential areas. Tragically, a 65-year-old woman died from carbon monoxide poisoning in one of the houses. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.”

In Kharkiv, five drones struck the Nemyshlyansky, Osnovyansky, and Slobidsky districts. These strikes damaged over 30 private homes and five apartment buildings, with one person reported injured. In Kharkiv’s Osnovyansky district, a fire broke out at a hypermarket parking lot, damaging cars and buses.

These events highlight the ongoing escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, leading to the destruction of civilian infrastructure and loss of life. Attacks on energy facilities and residential areas demonstrate the war’s severe toll on civilians, who continue to suffer from the consequences of hostilities. As the frequency of strikes grows, ensuring public safety and restoring infrastructure remain critical to stabilizing the situation in the affected regions.

The recent strikes in Sumy and Kharkiv are part of a broader pattern of escalating attacks across Ukraine. Similar assaults have been reported in other regions, underscoring the ongoing threat to civilian safety.
