Massive Strike on Ukraine Leaves 12 Regions and Kyiv Without Power

Вражеский удар призвів до масштабних відключень електроенергії в столиці та багатьох областях країни.

Coordinated Attack on Critical Infrastructure Across Ukraine

A large-scale assault combining missiles and drones targeted Ukraine's critical infrastructure, particularly the energy sector, leaving consumers without electricity in twelve regions and the capital city. The attack on Kyiv occurred overnight on May 14, resulting in casualties and fatalities. Over the course of the day, more than 1,560 drones were deployed.

Regions Affected by Power Outages

Specifically, electricity was cut off for consumers in:

  • Poltava
  • Kharkiv
  • Sumy
  • Donetsk
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Dnipropetrovsk
  • Lviv
  • Volyn
  • Khmelnytskyi
  • Chernihiv
  • Kyiv regions
  • Kyiv city

During the night of May 14, Russian terrorists struck Kyiv with missiles and drones, causing a multi-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district to collapse. Damage and fires were also reported in the Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, Boryspil, and Bila Tserkva districts of the Kyiv region.

'As a result, consumers in Poltava, Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions, as well as Kyiv city, remain without power as of morning,' Ukrenergo reported.

Emergency restoration work began in each region as soon as security conditions allowed. 'Energy workers are doing everything possible to restore power to all subscribers as quickly as possible,' Ukrenergo added.

This attack ranks among the most extensive in recent months, underscoring Russia's continued aggressive posture toward Ukraine. Beyond causing substantial material damage, it has created severe hardships for civilians dependent on electricity. Ukrainian energy crews are now racing to restore power, but the situation remains precarious due to ongoing threats from the adversary.
