Kyiv Under Heavy Attack on June 15
In the early hours of June 15, the Ukrainian capital faced a large-scale assault by Russian forces. Multiple districts were hit, including Osokorky, where a strike occurred near the Nyzhni Sady area. The missile impact left a massive crater and damaged several private homes in the neighborhood.
Cultural Heritage Sites and Residential Buildings Hit
The attack also struck the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. A direct hit sparked a major fire that spread across the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. Fortunately, sacred relics and liturgical items were evacuated in time. In the Pechersk district, a five-story residential building was hit, while in Obolon, a missile tore through a residential building between the third and fourth floors. In Solomianskyi district, a nine-story apartment block also sustained a direct strike.
Furthermore, the Russian assault ignited a fire at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio. The blast destroyed Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection, which included roughly one hundred thousand costumes and three million individual clothing items. Other buildings and structures on the studio grounds were also damaged.
“A strike was recorded in the Nyzhni Sady area. Private homes were damaged, and emergency services are on site,” reported the news outlet GLAVKOM.
This attack underscores the ongoing threat to civilian infrastructure and cultural heritage in Ukraine amid the continuing conflict.
