Epidemiological Investigation Underway
Specialists have launched an epidemiological investigation to identify the source of the infection and the factors in its transmission. Experts from the Lviv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated,
"It has been established that all the sick children attended and ate at one of the preschool institutions in the city of Sokal."The investigation will involve:
- Interviewing the hospitalized children and their parents;
- Determining which food products were consumed;
- Collecting samples of food, water, and surface swabs;
- Examining staff members at the institution.
This incident follows a previous case of child poisoning at a summer camp in the Lviv region on August 4, 2025. In that event, 24 children from various regions of Ukraine, aged between seven and 17, were taken to medical facilities with a preliminary diagnosis of acute intestinal infection. A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 325 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries severe penalties including fines and imprisonment.
The epidemiological probe is ongoing, and local authorities are urging parents to remain vigilant and seek medical attention if their children show any symptoms of illness.
The food poisoning outbreak at the Sokal kindergarten highlights the critical importance of stringent food quality control in educational and childcare institutions. In light of the situation, public health bodies must implement necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. It is also vital for parents to monitor their children's health closely and respond promptly to any signs of sickness.
