Major Power Failure in the Komi Republic
A major power outage has struck the city of Syktyvkar in the Komi Republic, disrupting electricity throughout the New Year holiday period. Residents have experienced significant supply interruptions. In the settlement of Pichim, part of the Syktyvdinsky District, the power was cut four times, with outages lasting between 12 and 18 hours. Specifically, electricity was lost on the evening of January 18 and was not restored until the night of January 19. However, a further blackout occurred at 07:00 on January 19, lasting until midday.
Explosion at Electrical Substation in Orsk
In a separate incident, an explosion at an electrical substation in the city of Orsk, Orenburg Oblast, occurred on January 14, contributing to power supply problems in that region. These incidents follow a blackout in Mariupol, where a power cut happened after an unmanned aerial vehicle attack before January 13. This attack in Mariupol triggered a fire in the area of Donetsk Highway, where a substation in the Kalmiuskyi District burned.
Consequently, the power supply situation in Syktyvkar and Orsk remains difficult, with residents in both cities facing serious inconvenience during the New Year holidays. These outages highlight the vulnerability of critical infrastructure, especially during winter when demand is high.
