Drug-Related Charges Filed Against Mother

A 22-year-old woman from Kyiv faces criminal charges after her four-year-old son was hospitalized in critical condition. The boy found a drug-laced pill on the floor and swallowed it, suffering acute intoxication, stupor, and involuntary movements. At the time of the incident, the mother was in a neighboring room using drugs with an acquaintance. Fortunately, the child's life is no longer in danger. This case highlights the severe risks posed by parental substance abuse in the home.

The child has been removed from the family and placed under the supervision of child protection services. The accused woman is a known drug addict who has repeatedly faced administrative penalties for failing to fulfill her parental duties, having ignored systematic warnings from social services.

Severity of the Offense

The case will be tried under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The woman could face up to five years of imprisonment.

This incident underscores the grave issue of drug addiction among young parents and its potential impact on children. Given the defendant's prior administrative offenses, there is significant concern regarding her potential for rehabilitation and the future safety of the child. With the child now in state custody, child protection authorities will be responsible for his further upbringing and for ensuring a stable environment.
