Introducing the 'Barbie Dream Team' Collection
Mattel has launched a new doll series, the 'Barbie Dream Team,' celebrating eight influential women from sports, science, and other fields. This release coincides with International Women's Day on March 8th and aims to honor the achievements of these inspiring figures. This initiative is part of Mattel's broader effort to create role models that reflect a wider range of accomplishments.
Meet the Inspirational Figures
The collection features dolls modeled after renowned athletes and professionals. Among them is American tennis legend Serena Williams, winner of 23 Grand Slam titles, whose career has made her a global sports icon. Also included is English footballer Chloe Kelly, a forward for Arsenal and the England national team, who rose to fame after scoring the winning goal in the 2022 European Championship final against Germany.
The series also honors Polish mountaineer Zofia Skubis, the youngest woman to summit both Mount Everest (8,849 m) and Manaslu (8,163 m). The rest of the Dream Team comprises:
- American astronaut and researcher Kelly Gerardy,
- German pop singer Helene Fischer,
- Mexican race car driver Regina Sirvent Alvarado,
- Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana,
- Australian professional surfer Stephanie Gilmore.
This is not Mattel's first series dedicated to accomplished women. Furthermore, in collaboration with the organization Breakthrough T1D, the company released the world's first Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes. That doll wears a blue dress with a polka-dot pattern and carries a matching blue bag, highlighting its unique representation.
The launch of the 'Barbie Dream Team' series reflects a growing societal trend of recognizing and celebrating women's achievements across diverse fields. By showcasing success in traditionally male-dominated areas like sports and science, these dolls help shape positive examples for young people and promote social awareness about the importance of equality and opportunity for all.
