Chornomorsk City Mayor Takes Up Military Duty
Vasyl Huliaiev, the mayor of Chornomorsk in Odesa Oblast, has announced his decision to enlist in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The news was reported by the media outlet 'Glavcom', citing a video address in which Huliaiev confirmed his move. This decision places him among a growing number of local officials choosing to serve on the front lines.
With his departure for military service, the duties of mayor will be assumed by Olena Sholar, secretary of the Chornomorsk City Council. Huliaiev stated:
'I have decided to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The position remains mine, and the team stays in place. After my contract ends, I will return to my post.' — Vasyl Huliaiev
Bolstering the War Effort
Huliaiev’s move mirrors a similar step taken by Volodymyr Borysenko, the mayor of Boryspil, who also joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These actions by city mayors highlight a growing trend of local politicians actively supporting the nation’s defense. By personally stepping into military roles, these elected leaders demonstrate a commitment to protecting their communities and set an example that could boost public mobilization and morale within the armed forces.
