Tariff increase on gas distribution: reaction of Igor Terekhov

Igor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv and head of the Association of Frontline Cities and Communities, stated that the increase in gas distribution tariffs planned by the NERC is nonsensical in wartime conditions. He believes it could significantly impact municipal enterprises and community budgets, as well as disrupt balance. The Association plans to address this issue by appealing to the Government to cancel this decision. Terekhov spoke about this on NV radio.

According to Terekhov, even a small increase in gas distribution tariffs could create significant financial problems for municipal enterprises, as the tariff for the population remains unchanged.

This will negatively affect municipal enterprises. The city budget will have to provide additional funding for them, while they will, in turn, pay twice as much for gas distribution

Terekhov emphasized that this issue will affect all communities, especially those living on the front line and suffering the consequences of war. The tariff increase could threaten the stable operation of municipal enterprises, which ensure the functioning of communities and residents in these regions.

Increase of gas distribution tariffs

It should be noted that on December 2, the NERC approved plans to increase gas distribution tariffs for 2026. This increase will be implemented in two stages - on January 1 and April 1, leaving tariffs for the population unchanged. The planned increase has already sparked a wave of reactions among experts and public figures, who expressed concerns about its negative consequences for municipal enterprises and communities.
