Andriy Sadovyi’s Early Work Experience
In a recent interview, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi opened up about his first foray into the workforce, which began when he was just 16 years old. Back in the early 1990s, wristwatches imported from Poland were in high demand across Lviv. Sadovyi remembers buying batches of about ten watches at a time, then traveling to the city of Dnipro, where he could sell them for several times the original price.
“I could buy about ten of them, go to Dnipro, and sell them there for several times more. I was 16 years old at the time,” the mayor noted.

Sadovyi also shared personal reflections on his upbringing. His mother graduated from Ivan Franko National University, taught history, and worked as a vocational training instructor. His father was an engineer at a bus manufacturing plant. The mayor emphasized that his family never struggled financially:
“There was always money in the household. I don’t recall us ever going hungry.”
He further highlighted the trust he places in his own children, attributing it directly to the trust his parents gave him:
- “I went on internships, traveled around. I trust my children.”
- “And why is that? Because I had trust from my mom and dad.”
These intimate recollections come to light shortly after an incident on May 15, when the mayor was doused with an unknown substance during a public event. Despite the disruption, Sadovyi continued with his scheduled duties after changing his clothes.
