Obolon Residents Warned of Nighttime Water Disruption

Мешканці Оболоні отримали попередження щодо можливих перебоїв з водопостачанням у ночі.

Scheduled Flushing of Water Mains in Kyiv's Obolon District

Residents in parts of Kyiv's Obolon district should prepare for a temporary water supply interruption overnight on June 17-18. The planned preventive flushing of water mains is set to run from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a routine maintenance step to remove sediment buildup from pipes. This information was reported by Glavkom, citing Kyivvodokanal, the city's water utility.

Streets Affected by the Flushing Operation

The flushing will impact the following streets:

  • Pryozerna Street
  • Heroiv Polku Azov Street
  • Levka Lukianenka Street (buildings 2-18)
  • Obolonska Naberezhna Street
  • Volodymyra Ivasyuka Avenue (buildings 1-21, 2-24)
  • Obolonskyi Avenue (buildings 1-15, 2-24)

During the work, residents may experience reduced water pressure. Authorities advise against using tap water for cooking or personal hygiene while the flushing is underway.

Once the flushing is complete, it is recommended to let the water run until it becomes clear and odorless. Notably, similar maintenance was carried out overnight on April 7-8, when preventive flushing of cold water supply networks occurred in Obolon. That operation covered Zoia Haidai, Ozerna, Pivnichna, Pryrichna, Bohatyrska, and Heroiv Dnipra streets, as well as Levka Lukianenka (1-33/35), Obolonskyi Avenue (23-30/51; 26-58), and Volodymyra Ivasyuka Avenue (35-65; 26-64).

For context, Kyiv faced a massive Russian missile and drone attack on the night of May 24. Despite this, the Bortnychi Aeration Station, a critical piece of infrastructure, continues to operate normally. Oleksandr Brodsky, head of the Kyiv City Council's Housing and Utilities Committee, stated,

'the station continues to operate in its regular mode.'

Flushing water mains is a key procedure to maintain water quality in Kyiv. Clearing pipes of sediment not only improves the taste of the water but also boosts the efficiency of the supply system. Residents in the affected area should account for possible inconveniences, such as reduced water pressure, to avoid any issues during the maintenance period.

As residents of Obolon prepare for the upcoming water supply interruption, it's important to note that similar maintenance activities are also scheduled in other parts of Kyiv. For instance, nighttime flushing of water mains is planned for Troieshchyna, highlighting the city's ongoing efforts to ensure water quality across different districts. Staying informed about these operations can help residents manage their water usage effectively during these essential maintenance periods.
