Metalist 1925 Sets Sights on Georgiy Yermakov
Ukrainian club Metalist 1925 has expressed interest in signing goalkeeper Georgiy Yermakov, who currently plays for Israeli side Maccabi Haifa. This development was reported by the portal Glavcom, citing information from TaToTake. The 24-year-old shot-stopper joined Maccabi Haifa in the summer of 2024 after spending the 2024/25 season on loan with Oleksandriya, where he helped the team secure the silver medal in the Ukrainian Premier League.
During the 2025/26 season, Yermakov made 37 appearances across all competitions for Maccabi, keeping 12 clean sheets and showcasing strong reliability between the posts. Meanwhile, Metalist 1925, under head coach Mladen Bartulovic, finished 5th in the Ukrainian league standings and reached the semifinals of the Ukrainian Cup, where they were defeated by Chernihiv.
National Team Debut and Eriksen Incident
Yermakov also earned his first call-up to the Ukraine national team from head coach Andrea Maldera. As part of preparations for international fixtures, Ukraine played two friendly matches:
- A 2-0 victory against Poland;
- A 1-2 loss to Denmark.
The match against Denmark took place in Odense, where an incident occurred involving Danish player Christian Eriksen, who briefly lost consciousness. According to reports, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) responded appropriately, allowing Eriksen to get up and leave the field unassisted. Medical staff established full communication with him, and Eriksen is currently in the hospital for further evaluation. The national team’s medical personnel remain in constant contact with both him and the hospital doctors.
Denmark head coach Brian Riemer commented on the situation, stating: 'Everything you need from us, we are ready to provide.'
He also emphasized that 'the decision not to finish the match was an easy one.' Eriksen sent greetings to his teammates, reflecting his resilience and positive attitude in a challenging situation.
Metalist 1925's interest in Georgiy Yermakov highlights the growing competition in the Ukrainian football market, as clubs look to strengthen their squads. At the same time, Yermakov's performances with Maccabi Haifa and his debut for the national team underscore his rising reputation as a goalkeeper. The incident involving Eriksen during the friendly also serves as a reminder of the importance of medical safety in sports and the readiness of teams to handle emergencies.
