Metinvest received a UN award for the underground hospital: how it saved 4000 lives

Метінвест був визнаний міжнародною організацією за створення підземної лікарні, яка врятувала життя тисячам людей.

Recognition of Innovations in Medical Assistance

The company 'Metinvest' received the international award of the United Nations Global Compact in Ukraine, Partnership for Sustainability Award 2025, in the category of 'Restoration of Ukraine' for creating the first steel underground hospital on the front line. This innovative project has made a significant contribution to medical support for military personnel, having already saved about four thousand lives. With its capacity to accommodate up to 100 wounded per day, the hospital significantly improves conditions for providing medical assistance in armed conflict.

For the Partnership for Sustainability Award 2025 competition, 150 applications were submitted from 22 countries, of which 93 projects were selected for the finals. 'Metinvest' stood out among competitors due to its innovative development, which includes an underground hospital located at a depth of 6 meters. This medical facility meets NATO Role/Echelon 2 standards, which indicates the high quality of its equipment and organization.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

The 'Metinvest' group became a participant in the UN Global Compact in 2010, highlighting its commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility. Underground hospitals, in particular, are an innovation created based on steel bunkers, as noted by Oleksandr Myronenko. Over 21 million hryvnias were allocated for the implementation of the hospital project, and the total assistance from 'Metinvest' to Ukraine amounts to 9.3 billion hryvnias.

Through such initiatives, 'Metinvest' continues to demonstrate its readiness to support the restoration of Ukraine and provide assistance in difficult conditions.

The receipt of the Partnership for Sustainability Award 2025 confirms the importance of innovations in the field of medical assistance in Ukraine, especially in times of war.

The Metinvest underground hospital project is an example of how business can interact with social needs and implement solutions that save lives. It also emphasizes the necessity of supporting medical initiatives during crises, which can become a vital aspect of restoring the country after the conflict.
