The widow of the popular Ukrainian artist Igor Poklad, Svitlana Poklad, spoke about their love story in an interview for the publication 'Glavkom'. She confessed that she does not remember the circumstances of their meeting, but the relationship began when she was in her second year at university. After a long period of getting used to each other, there were obstacles in their relationship.
“We got used to each other for a long time. We got used to each other and somehow realized that it was not the right time for us to be together. I don’t know why, but there was a feeling that something was preventing us. Igor Dmytrovych was very afraid of my youth - at that time he was not just popular, but insanely popular as a composer. And I… I was a young student, just a breeze in the head.”
At the end of his marriage and her own marriage, Ms. Poklad left the country, but later they realized that they had rushed into things, and they reunited. Their relationship lasted until Igor Poklad’s death in 2025, just short of their coral wedding anniversary.
“But at some point, we realized that we had been a bit hasty and that we shouldn’t have parted ways. Although now, from the height of today’s years, I understand that if we had stayed together at that time, we would have eventually parted. Because we were too similar: explosive, emotional, often dissatisfied with something. I really loved to insist on my own, while Igor Dmytrovych could not stand being argued with. Our heatedness left us no chance to be together. And later, when the emotions calmed down, when reason came first - that’s when we made the decision to be together.”

Igor Poklad is known for his songs and music for dozens of musicals, operettas, films, and animated films. His creative work includes over 150 songs, among which are 'Zelen-klen', 'Dva kryla', 'Tycha voda'. In 1997, he received the title of People's Artist of Ukraine, and later became a Hero of Ukraine and a National Legend.
