Майкл Кохан здобуває першу перемогу сезону, завоювавши золото під час змагань у Туреччині.

Kokhan Triumphs at the Nurullah Ivak Cup

Ukrainian hammer thrower Mykhailo Kokhan has clinched the gold medal at the Nurullah Ivak Cup, held in Izmir, Turkey. His winning throw of 78.07 meters marks his first victory of the 2026 season. This achievement solidifies his standing among the world's elite, making him only the sixth thrower this year to surpass the 78-meter mark. The hammer throw is a classic Olympic discipline where Eastern European athletes have traditionally excelled.

Season's Progress and Upcoming Competitions

Earlier this season, Kokhan placed fourth at the European Cup with a throw of 77.79 meters. The current 2026 world lead is held by Czech athlete Volodymyr Myslyvchuk, who set a mark of 80.69 meters. Last season, Kokhan exceeded 78 meters in nine competitions, with his personal best of 80.73 meters coming at the Antalya Cup.

Kokhan's next competition is scheduled for Friday, April 24, in Nairobi, Kenya. The 2026 athletics calendar features several major events, including:

  • The European Championships in Birmingham (August 10-16)
  • The World Athletics Championships in Budapest (September 11-13)

Kokhan also plans to compete in Diamond League meets, aiming for top results following his fourth-place finish at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, where he missed a bronze medal by a mere 67 centimeters.

Mykhailo Kokhan's victory at the Nurullah Ivak Cup underscores his competitive form on the international stage, particularly with major championships on the horizon.
