Ukraine’s Digital Ministry Denies 5G Launch in Kyiv on July 21

Міністерство цифрових технологій України спростувало інформацію про старт 5G у Києві 21 липня.

5G Network Rollout in Ukraine

Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation has dismissed claims that 5G services were set to go live in Kyiv on July 21. Officials stated that it is too early to confirm any specific launch date, as mobile operators are still conducting technical preparations. The rumored July 21 launch initially spread through Telegram channels, but no official confirmation appeared on the operators’ verified platforms.

The first cities to host 5G trials were Lviv, Kharkiv, and Borodianka, though the network is currently only available in select districts of those locations. A two-year pilot project for 5G in Ukraine is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2024. The initial test run took place on May 27, 2024, involving the Promprylad Innovation Center in Ivano-Frankivsk, Vodafone’s Kyiv office, and Nokia’s Helsinki office.

All operators are currently preparing for the 5G launch in Kyiv and carrying out the necessary technical work. An exact launch date will be announced once preparations are complete and the network is actually deployed.

The Ukrainian government aims to complete the full nationwide rollout of 5G by 2030, but a precise timeline has yet to be determined.

Current Status of 5G Implementation

The situation surrounding the 5G launch in Ukraine highlights the complexity of adopting cutting-edge technology and the extensive groundwork required from operators. Despite earlier reports citing specific dates, the Ministry of Digital Transformation stresses the importance of finishing all technical tasks before an official rollout. This cautious approach may ultimately lead to higher-quality services for users in the future.
