Steps to Safeguard the Water Balance of the Danube Lakes
Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy is ramping up efforts to preserve the water balance of the Danube lakes in the Odesa region, with a particular focus on filling these water bodies ahead of the peak summer season. These lakes are critically important for maintaining the ecosystems of Ukraine’s Danube area, supplying water to local communities, and irrigating agricultural lands.
Targeted Actions for Lakes Katlabukh and Kytaï
Special attention will be given to Lakes Katlabukh and Kytaï. For Lake Katlabukh, forced filling using pumping stations is planned in the near future. Lake Kytaï, which has high salinity and requires constant water exchange, also needs tailored measures. Options under consideration include building an autonomous pumping station equipped with a solar power plant and an energy storage system.
