Cooperation Memorandum Signed
The Ukrainian Ministry of Economy and the Ukrainian Federation of Food Banks have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to develop the nation's food bank system. This initiative establishes a formal mechanism to redirect safe, edible food to vulnerable populations instead of sending it to landfills. Food banks are a proven model for reducing waste and addressing food insecurity, a growing concern in many nations.
The parties will collaborate on legislative amendments to support this effort and will implement approaches already successful in European Union countries. The memorandum was signed by Taras Vysotskyi, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, and Dmytro Shkrabatovskyi, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Federation of Food Banks.
Edible food should not be destroyed; it must reach those who need support. This is how modern food security works: when the state, business, and civil society join forces to reduce waste, help people, and simultaneously lessen the burden on the environment.
Taras Vysotskyi
The signing of this Memorandum is a significant step toward improving food security in Ukraine, particularly amid economic challenges and social instability. Implementing a robust food bank system could substantially cut food waste and provide essential supplies to people in difficult circumstances. This move could also serve as a model for other countries in efficient resource use and corporate social responsibility.
