The Ministry of Digital Transformation explained: how to ensure internet for 72 hours without electricity

Міністерство цифрової трансформації поділилося порадами про те, як залишатися на зв'язку протягом трьох днів без електроенергії.

Guide to Preparing Home Internet for Blackouts

The Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine has published a guide on preparing home internet for blackouts, emphasizing the xPON technology. This technology is capable of providing internet for 72+ hours without electricity, which is crucial in the modern context where power outages have become a common practice.

To implement xPON, fiber optic must be laid between the provider and the house. There are more than 2000 providers in Ukraine that can offer the necessary services. An important element of the system is the optical terminal ONU, which is a 'small box without antennas'. This device is key for receiving the signal and ensuring a stable connection.

Steps to Connect xPON

To connect xPON, users should follow several simple steps:

  • Check if the selected provider has the capability to provide xPON services.
  • Arrange for the installation of equipment.
  • Prepare backup power to use the internet even during power outages.

These steps will help ensure continuous internet access in challenging conditions.

In a situation where Ukraine is facing frequent blackouts due to military actions, ensuring a stable internet connection becomes critically important for maintaining communication, work, and learning. The xPON technology offers an effective solution that allows users to stay connected even in the most difficult conditions. Given the numerous challenges the country faces, the implementation of such innovations can significantly improve the lives of citizens and contribute to the development of digital infrastructure.
