Situation with electricity export in Ukraine
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has refuted the information about the export of electricity to EU countries during mass outages, stating that all electricity is used for domestic needs. All electricity produced by nuclear, hydroelectric, thermal power plants, and heat power stations is directed exclusively for the needs of the country.
After the massive attacks by the enemy, all major thermal and hydroelectric power plants in Ukraine were damaged. Despite this, consumer demand remained at pre-war levels, which necessitates the use of all available resources to ensure electricity supply. Electricity export is currently not taking place, and available data from Poland, Hungary, and Romania confirms the absence of commercial flows from Ukraine.
Current state of electricity supply
According to the report of NEC 'Ukrenergo', electricity sales to neighboring countries are temporarily suspended. Technical flows between united energy systems are not considered exports, as these flows are usually small and have a balanced nature. As stated in the ministry:
'Electricity export is currently not taking place. All produced volumes are used within the country.'
Furthermore, 'As much energy goes abroad, the same amount actually returns. The balance is always close to zero.' Thus, the situation with electricity supply in Ukraine remains under control, and all energy is directed to meet the internal needs of the population and industry.
Currently, Ukraine is in a difficult situation due to military actions that have negatively impacted the energy infrastructure. Directing all resources to domestic needs is a necessary step to maintain stability in the country, especially in conditions of increased demand for electricity. This underscores the importance of restoring the energy system and protecting it from further attacks to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for the population and businesses.
