Smartphone Use in Ukrainian Schools
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced it will not implement a nationwide ban on smartphones in schools. Minister Oksen Lisovyi stated that no legislative restrictions are currently being prepared at the national level. Instead, the decision on rules for mobile device usage will be left to individual educational institutions, allowing them to set their own policies. Educational Ombudsperson Nadiia Leshchyk emphasized that Ukraine currently lacks clear legislative guidelines regarding smartphone use in schools. While she acknowledged that the issue requires additional regulation, the immediate solution has been delegated to the school level. For instance, the Netherlands has banned mobile phones in primary schools, expanding restrictions that previously applied only to secondary institutions. In some countries, students must leave their phones in special boxes or lockers during lessons and can only use them during breaks.
