Return Ambassadors: A New Support Initiative

The Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine has introduced a Return Ambassadors program. This volunteer-driven effort aims to assist Ukrainians living overseas by providing them with valuable insights into life within local communities back home, making their reintegration smoother. The project focuses on building bridges between those planning to return and the communities they will join, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment.

Workshop Held in Vinnytsia

From September 7 to 10, a workshop titled 'Return Ambassadors in Communities: From Concept to Implementation' took place in Vinnytsia. The event brought together representatives from 20 different communities across Ukraine along with members of civil society organizations. It was organized by the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity, the Council of Europe Project, and the Public Holding 'GROUP OF INFLUENCE'.

The Council of Europe Project backing this initiative is named 'Facilitating Access to Human Rights and Essential Services for Internally Displaced Persons and Returnees in Ukraine.' Its Ukrainian office is based in Kyiv.

The Return Ambassadors initiative puts a human face on the process of coming back. It’s about someone who can personally introduce newcomers to the community, share their experiences, and say, 'Come, I’ll show you around.' It creates a sense of belonging and reassurance that you will be welcomed here.

This ambassador program represents a crucial step in aiding Ukrainians wishing to return amid the country’s ongoing challenges. By connecting returnees with local communities, it helps ease adaptation and integration—both essential for social stability and progress. Engaging volunteers in this way also strengthens social cohesion and mutual understanding throughout Ukraine.

In light of the ongoing efforts to support those affected by the conflict, it's essential to recognize the comprehensive assistance being provided to internally displaced persons. The UN has highlighted various initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of individuals in temporary accommodations, which complements the goals of the Return Ambassadors program by ensuring that all returnees have access to necessary resources and support during their reintegration.
