Washington Agreement on Peace in Congo: What It Means for the Region

Угоду про мир у Конго укладено в Вашингтоні: наслідки для сусідніх країн.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the signing of the Washington Peace Agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Rwanda, which took place on December 4 with the participation of the presidents of these countries and the United States of America.

We believe that the signed agreements will serve as a foundation for peace and security in the Great Lakes region.

We want to emphasize the effectiveness of the US mediation efforts in achieving this important result for international stability. This shows that peace and security can be ensured when all parties truly desire it and take specific actions to achieve it.

The successful implementation of the package of agreements, including the important Regional Framework Program for Economic Integration, will contribute to strengthening the economic potential and stability of the countries in the region, improving their investment attractiveness and developing economic ties with other countries.

Ukraine also confirms its readiness to enhance cooperation with the countries of the Great Lakes region and participate in economic projects within the Regional Economic Integration Program.

The response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the signing of the peace agreement between Congo and Rwanda is very positive. The agreements made in Washington can contribute to peace, stability, and economic development in the Great Lakes region. Ukraine has also expressed its readiness to facilitate cooperation with the countries of the region, which is an additional step forward in supporting regional stability.
