Minister of Economy Sobolev: There are no mass supermarket closures due to power outages

Міністр економіки Соболєв: Економіка витримує, супермаркети продовжують роботу попри проблеми з електропостачанням.

The situation with supermarkets in Ukraine

In Ukraine, there are no mass supermarket closures due to electricity outages. This was stated by the Minister of Economy Oleksiy Sobolev after a meeting with the heads of trading networks. Representatives of major chains participated in the meeting, including:

  • ATB-Market
  • Fozzy Group
  • NOVUS
  • Auchan
  • METRO UA
  • VARUS
  • Kolo store chain
  • Ukrainian Food Retail Alliance

Problems and Solutions

The main problem affecting the operation of supermarkets is equipment overload. Oleksiy Sobolev noted that sometimes there are failures in the operation of equipment in stores due to high load and prolonged frost. This complicates maintenance services, but does not lead to mass closures.

The government is actively working to resolve these issues and is negotiating with international partners to increase the supply of generators and spare parts.

Oleksiy Sobolev

In the current situation, it is important to understand that the adaptation of trading networks to the new conditions of the energy crisis is critically important for supporting the economy and ensuring that the population has access to goods. Government support in the form of negotiations with international partners regarding the supply of necessary equipment can significantly alleviate the burden on supermarkets and maintain their stable operation. This also reflects the potential challenges that entrepreneurs may face in crisis situations.
