Ukraine's Minister of Finance Sergii Marchenko met with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso in Kyiv to discuss support for the Ukrainian energy sector. The main topic was ensuring an uninterrupted heating season for 2025/2026 by financing gas procurement.
They considered options for obtaining a loan through the redistribution of funds or allocating additional financing for Naftogaz. They also explored ways to mobilize funding with the support of EU guarantees and attracting assistance from other donors, as it is estimated that over 4 billion cubic meters of gas need to be imported for a stable heating season in 2025-2026 according to Naftogaz.
The Ukrainian government is seeking ways to provide the country with resources for heating in the future, relying on international support and financing.
