The Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhiy Marchenko, and the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Ukraine, Neil Crompton, held a meeting to discuss the budgetary needs of the country for the years 2026-2027.
During the meeting, the parties considered the possibility of launching a new cooperation program with the IMF and the provision of a Reparations Loan by the European Commission by the end of 2025. The Minister of Finance also expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for supporting the G7 ERA mechanism. Through this mechanism, Britain has already provided Ukraine with about 2 billion US dollars, and another 1 billion dollars is planned to be received next year. These funds are directed to the needs of the security and defense sector.
“I am grateful to the United Kingdom for its unwavering support of Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale war—in financial, military, and humanitarian spheres. The systematic assistance from the UK government in strengthening Ukraine's defense potential has been particularly valuable, allowing us to withstand on the battlefield and continue to counter Russian aggression,”noted Serhiy Marchenko.
According to information, direct budget support from the United Kingdom since the beginning of the full-scale invasion has exceeded 3 billion US dollars and is the fourth largest among countries worldwide.
During the meeting, important issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom regarding the country's budgetary needs were discussed. Support in financial and defense areas was confirmed, which is crucial in the context of the geopolitical challenges facing Ukraine in the current conditions.
