Preparation for the heating season
Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal has instructed the heads of regions and cities to prepare plans for the protection of energy infrastructure ahead of the next heating season. The deadline for submitting plans has been set for September 1. During his visit to Kharkiv region, Shmyhal discussed the state of electricity, heat, and water supply in the region.
Local energy companies are receiving the necessary equipment from the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine’s hub. Thanks to the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine, additional equipment for repairs has already been ordered. The attack on the energy infrastructure that occurred on the night of Tuesday, February 3, resulted in significant damage to the Darnytsia CHPP in Kyiv, which temporarily halted its operations. This critical civil infrastructure facility provided heat to residential buildings, hospitals, and schools.
Calls to strengthen infrastructure
Denys Shmyhal noted that a certain amount of work has already been completed in the Kharkiv region and urged the continuation of strengthening energy infrastructure. He also reported that the President of Ukraine tasked local authorities to prepare plans for the protection of energy infrastructure prior to the start of the heating season. It is expected that the heads of cities and regions will submit the relevant plans by September 1.
Ensuring the country's energy infrastructure is a critically important task amid constant threats from the aggressor. Preparing protection plans ahead of the heating season will reduce risks from new attacks and improve the reliability of energy supply to consumers. Supporting local energy workers, who are receiving the necessary equipment for the restoration of damaged facilities, is also crucial for the stability of energy systems in the regions.
