Collaboration Agreement Signed
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the NGO 'Zemlyachky' have formalized a partnership through a memorandum aimed at refining women’s military uniforms and conducting trials of a new individual equipment set named the Female Combat Gear Kit. This initiative focuses on improving both summer and winter uniform variants tailored specifically for female service members, alongside a pilot program to equip 1,000 women soldiers with the new gear.
Currently, tens of thousands of women serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including in combat roles. Despite this, the only officially approved uniform for female personnel remains the summer field suit, with no standardized winter or transitional-season versions available. The first prototype of the winter uniform was developed by 'Zemlyachky' based on their design patterns.
Details of the Female Combat Gear Kit Pilot
The pilot project plans to issue the Female Combat Gear Kit to 1,000 female soldiers who have completed basic military training and selected combat positions. The kit includes:
- Two pairs of boots (winter and transitional-season)
- Multi-functional '5-in-1' transitional uniform
- Winter set with jacket and insulated trousers
- Thermal underwear
- T-shirts
- Socks
- Helmet
- Body armor featuring lightweight plates and ergonomic plate carrier
- Individual medical kit with four tourniquets
- Tactical backpack
- Active noise-cancelling headphones
- Rain poncho
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping pad
- Tactical gloves
- Transport case designed for field conditions
Over the course of 12 months, NGO 'Zemlyachky' will monitor the gear's durability, replacement needs, instances of self-purchasing additional equipment, sizing and comfort issues, and overall cost-effectiveness of centralized provisioning. The Ministry of Defense is responsible for selecting participants and granting access to personnel, while 'Zemlyachky' will manage social support, procurement, and logistics.

This approach allows us to make informed decisions grounded in real data rather than assumptions – a key goal in our ongoing military supply reform,"

Similar female-focused combat gear models have already been adopted by the US and UK armed forces. Following the pilot, the Ministry of Defense will consider integrating the optimized kit into official inventory lists and supply standards for women in combat roles.
