The Ukrainian government will allow foreigners to serve in officer positions in the Ukrainian army. This initiative has received support from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which approved the relevant resolution to establish a clear procedure for accepting foreigners for contractual service in officer positions. This decision aims to attract military specialists from abroad to higher positions and improve the process of granting them military ranks.
It is noted that the legislation provides for the possibility of accepting foreigners into service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the new resolution clarifies the conditions for contractual service in officer positions. The innovation will cover the army, transportation troops, and other units, provided there is legal residency and the necessary security procedures are followed.
The Ministry of Defense explains that this decision complies with laws adopted in 2024 and is aimed at strengthening the country's defense potential by integrating professional international experience.
"Regulating the procedure for the service of foreigners in officer positions will help enhance the powerful potential of Ukraine's Defense Forces by integrating professional international experience," emphasizes the Ministry of Defense.
The resolution will come into force after being signed by the President of Ukraine. It is also important to note that the Cabinet of Ministers has made a decision regarding the automatic extension of deferrals from conscription for military service during mobilization for certain categories of citizens.
