Trump's Peace Plan for Ukraine: EU Membership by 2027 and Security Guarantees from the USA

The Donald Trump administration is initiating a peace plan for Ukraine, which includes three main documents: a peace plan, security guarantees, and an economic recovery plan. This plan includes the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union in 2027, as well as the provision of security guarantees from the USA 'similar to Article 5'. Trump gave President Volodymyr Zelensky a few days to approve the proposed plan, although there are risks that could impact the implementation of these initiatives.

Main Aspects of the Peace Plan

Among the main aspects of the peace package are issues regarding a demilitarized zone and territory exchanges, which are inevitable, although Ukraine and the USA are still negotiating how the lines will be drawn. Additionally, the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant will be under US control, providing further security guarantees for Ukraine. The Trump administration also aims to attract $400 billion for the reconstruction of Ukraine, which could significantly contribute to the country's economic recovery.

David Ignatieff, an expert in international relations, notes that Ukraine's sovereignty will be protected from any Russian veto.

However, he also warns that Trump could still derail the process if he puts pressure on Zelensky and his European supporters, which could lead to a continuation of the conflict with dire consequences for Ukraine. Thus, Trump's new peace plan opens new prospects for Ukraine, but also contains significant risks that require careful analysis and discussion.

The proposed peace plan by Trump is an important step in seeking ways to stabilize the situation in Ukraine, especially in the context of the ongoing conflict with Russia. Membership in the EU by 2027 could be a significant achievement for Ukraine, but the implementation of this plan will require efforts from the Ukrainian authorities and international partners. The prospect of economic recovery and security guarantees from the USA could provide the necessary support for the country, but also highlight the complexity and ambiguity of the situation on the international stage.
