Call for the activity of Ukrainian churches during the war
Myroslav Marynovych urged Ukrainian churches to behave more boldly during the war, emphasizing the importance of fighting corruption and the necessity of unity in the religious environment. A dissident, a political prisoner during the USSR era, philosopher, and religious scholar, he stressed that the current time demands a more active position from the church.
Marynovych noted the positive aspect in the form of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, which promotes the unification of religious forces in Ukraine. However, he also pointed out that the issue of the slow transition of parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) remains relevant and will not go away. This issue requires more decisive actions from church leaders.
Social changes and challenges of the time
The philosopher noted that in times of war and the difficulties society is experiencing, Christianity should have a different character.
“The greater the crisis in society, the bolder and more courageous the epicenter of spirituality should be,” he emphasized. In his opinion, churches should become active participants in social changes and support people in difficult times.
At the same time, Myroslav Marynovych expressed the opinion that the presidential elections in Ukraine are currently not a priority due to the active war with Russia. He also believes that the idea of holding a referendum in Ukraine regarding a peace agreement is correct, but an agreement on a ceasefire will not be signed in the near future.
In conclusion, Marynovych emphasized that the idea of uniting the OCU and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) would be an absurd and erroneous decision. These comments highlight the need for decisive and bold actions from churches in the current conditions to meet the challenges of the time.
Myroslav Marynovych's speech underscores the importance of active participation of religious institutions in social processes, especially in the context of war and social crises. His call for unity and the fight against corruption among church structures reflects the need for more decisive actions to strengthen trust and community support. These issues remain relevant in the context of growing tension in the country and may significantly affect the moral and social climate in Ukraine.
