For the first time in history, the private SpaceX Fram2 mission has captured X-ray images while in orbit using a compact, portable device. The crew successfully scanned their own hand, forearm, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. They also imaged a smartwatch, showcasing the technology's versatile potential for in-space diagnostics. As space agencies and private companies prepare for longer missions, having reliable medical diagnostics in orbit is becoming increasingly important.

After returning to Earth, independent radiologists assessed the images and found their quality nearly equal to those taken in terrestrial hospitals.
