Misko Barbara: A Life Dedicated to Music and Performance
Misko Barbara is a prominent Ukrainian rock musician, actor, and co-founder of the influential band Dead Rooster. His artistic career began in Lviv in the late 1980s, with Dead Rooster forming in 1989. Initially playing the sopilka, Misko eventually took on the role of lead vocalist. The band's lyrics were deeply rooted in the works of renowned Ukrainian poets like Yuriy Andrukhovych and Serhiy Zhadan. One of their most celebrated songs, "We Won’t Die in Paris," features lyrics by Nataliya Bilotserkivets.
In 1997, Misko moved to Chicago, USA, where he worked in construction, earning $5–6 per hour. Two years later, at a music festival in Kharkiv, he met Svitlana Oleshko, the founder of the Arabesques Theatre. This meeting marked a turning point, and in 2001, Misko was invited to perform in a play based on Serhiy Zhadan’s work, prompting his relocation from Lviv to Kharkiv.
