Mobile Units of Ukraine's Migration Service Serve Frontline Communities

Last week, mobile teams from the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMS) traveled to frontline communities in the Kherson, Kharkiv, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions to provide passport services. These efforts are part of ongoing operations to ensure residents in conflict-affected areas can access essential identification documents despite the dangers of war. During these visits, dozens of passports were issued or processed, marking a critical step in supporting citizens amid military challenges.

Results from Mobile Team Missions

In the Kherson region, specifically in the village of Pravdyne within the Bilozerka community, mobile units issued:

  • 9 ID cards
  • 6 foreign passports

In the Kharkiv region, on July 2, a mobile team held an outreach session in the settlement of Krasnopavlivka, Lozova district. There, 14 passport applications were accepted:

  • 7 for foreign passports
  • 7 for ID cards
One individual used a combined service to apply for both an ID card and a foreign passport simultaneously. As a result, 10 completed passport documents were handed out in Krasnopavlivka. Additionally, one person had a photo inserted into their passport booklet after turning 45, and 8 residents received consultations on passport services.

In the Sumy region, a mobile team faced serious dangers when they came under enemy fire during a visit to the Boromlya community. Due to the attack, operations were relocated to the Trostyanets sector of the SMS office in Sumy, where 4 passports were ultimately issued. In the Mykolaiv region, on July 1, a mobile team visited the Kutsurub community, serving the village of Ivanivka and nearby areas. There, 27 documents were processed, including 15 ID cards and 12 foreign passports. Furthermore, 22 previously completed documents were delivered in the Kutsurub community:

  • 10 ID cards
  • 12 foreign passports
It is worth noting that operations in the Mykolaiv region were complicated by extreme heat and the threat of FPV drone attacks.

These missions by SMS mobile teams highlight the critical importance of providing residents with necessary documents, especially amid active hostilities and instability. Having valid passports is essential for people in frontline areas, as it affects their ability to travel, access social services, and receive medical care. The willingness of SMS staff to work under such dangerous conditions underscores their dedication to public service and support for the population during these challenging times.

As mobile passport units continue to navigate the challenges posed by conflict, their efforts are crucial for ensuring that residents in frontline areas can obtain necessary identification.
