The Ukraine U21 national team defeated Hungary in the Euro-2027 qualifying

The Ukraine U21 football team achieved an important victory in the Euro-2027 qualifying round, beating Hungary 2:1. This result allowed the 'blue-yellow' team to come closer to the group leaders. This is reported by Suspilne.

Ukraine U21 Hungary: how the Euro-2027 qualifying match went

Before the game, the Ukrainians approached after losing points in a match against Lithuania and were in third place in the group. The previous meeting with Hungary ended in a 3:3 draw.

In the reported match, the Ukraine team opened the scoring in the 26th minute. After a cross from Illia Krupskiy, forward Oleksandr Pyshchur headed the ball into the opponent's goal.

In the second half, the advantage was doubled by Hennadiy Synchuk. In the 69th minute, he broke through the wing and with a precise shot from outside the penalty area made the score 2:0.

Hungary could only respond in the final moments of the game – in the 90+5th minute, setting the final score at 2:1.

Group H standings: Ukraine's positions after the victory

After the sixth round, the situation in the group looks like this:

  • Turkey – 11 points (5 matches)

  • Croatia – 10 points (4 matches)

  • Ukraine – 8 points (6 matches)

  • Hungary – 3 points

  • Lithuania – 2 points.

The victory allowed the Ukrainians to shorten the gap from Turkey to three points. At the same time, the Turks have a game in hand.

The final qualifying games will take place in the fall of 2026. Ukraine will play against key competitors – Turkey and Croatia, who will determine the team's chances of qualifying for the final part of the tournament.
