The Ministry of Education and Science has approved a new qualification improvement program for Ukrainian educators teaching children abroad. It involves working in a multilingual environment, adapting Ukrainian programs, and utilizing artificial intelligence, reports Osvitoria.
How Ukrainian teachers will be trained abroad
The program for teaching the Ukrainian studies component in the context of educational activities abroad has been approved by the Ministry Order No. 1472 from August 24, 2026. It will be in effect for five years and is intended for educators working with students in grades 5-9.
The course will last for 60 hours, or 2 ECTS credits. Of these, 18 hours are allocated for lectures, 36 for practical classes, four for independent work, and two for final assessment.
Training can be conducted in-person, remotely, online, through network or dual formats, as well as directly at the workplace. Organizers will be able to adapt up to 30% of the program to the needs of specific educational settings.
Teachers will be trained to work with children who have varying levels of proficiency in the Ukrainian language, including bilingual students and those for whom Ukrainian is essentially a foreign language. The program also includes individualization of learning, creating an inclusive environment, and collaborating with parents and Ukrainian communities.
Artificial intelligence and the shortened Ukrainian program
The Ukrainian studies component is defined as a shortened educational program. It must consider that the child is simultaneously studying in the school of the host country. Therefore, teachers will be trained to determine the essential minimum of material and not overload students.
The program includes teaching methodologies for Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine, civic education, and geography. It also provides for the adaptation of learning materials to the country where the students reside.
A separate block is dedicated to artificial intelligence. Teachers will be able to use AI for preparing exercises, adapting materials, visualizing information, and automating certain assessment elements. At the same time, the Ministry of Education emphasizes adherence to copyright law and academic integrity.
After completing the course, educators will receive a document confirming their qualification improvement.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky stated that Ukrainian teachers after the second stage of salary increases will be able to earn up to 28,000 UAH per month.
