Frosts up to -20 degrees: how the weather paralyzed railway communication in Ukraine

Severe weather conditions in Ukraine have led to disruptions in the schedule of railway transport, particularly in the Kyiv region. The falling of an electric pole on the contact network caused delays, affecting, in particular, train No. 10/9 on the Budapest – Kyiv route. Authorities urge residents to refrain from traveling due to adverse weather conditions.

Since January 9, frosts up to -11 degrees have been observed in Kyiv and the region, and at night, temperatures may drop to 12-17° frosts, in some regions even to -20°. It is expected that snow will fall from January 6 to 10, which will also contribute to worsening the situation on the roads and in the transport network.

Complications in residents' movement

Moreover, a curfew has been introduced in Kyiv, further complicating residents' movement. Although the problem with delays has been resolved, authorities urge citizens to be cautious and plan their trips considering the weather conditions.

This situation emphasizes the importance of infrastructure readiness for extreme weather conditions that can affect the daily lives of citizens.

In light of the weather forecasts, it is crucial for the relevant services to take measures to ensure the safety of passengers and the stability of transport operations under winter precipitation and frosts.
